This year's fifth Father of the Year Awards Dinner, benefiting the American Diabetes Association, was a huge success. It was held at the Grand Hyatt Regency in Denver on June 16, with everyone dressed in elegant formal attire.

Each year, all honorees raise over $160,000 to help support advocacy, research and education initiatives of the American Diabetes Association. These funds help the Association fulfill its mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

The honorees were:

  • Robert L. Cohen, Chairman & CEO, with the IMA Financial Group, Inc. He currently serves on several boards including the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce.
  • Norman S. Early, Former Denver District Attorney and who currently serves as special counsel to Welborn Sullivan Meck & Tooley, P.C.
  • David McReynolds, President of Columbine Health Plan. He serves on the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce board.

Each honoree was presented with a gold trophy that symbolizes the relationship the father has to his family. It also acknowledges the achievements he has earned not only professionally but also personally. This image has been Father's Day Council's symbol of excellence for more than 50 years.

The following criteria was met in order to be an honoree:

  • Due to their business/government standing, these individuals possess the ability to secure dollars that will benefit the American Diabetes Association.
  • These individuals have served as outstanding role models in our community.
  • These individuals exemplify positive role modeling as fathers.
  • These indiviudals have demonstrated the ability to balance their personal lives while achieving a high level of success in their careers.

Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the American Diabetes Association. The ADA is the nation's leading voluntary health organization supporting diabetes. Founded in 1940, the Association has offices in every region of the country providing services in more than 800 communities.
