This year's 2008 Valentine's Fling for Project Safeguard was a jovial and heartwarming event. It was held at the festive Hyatt Regency Tech Center with plenty of hearts and generosity present. The Valentine Fling was a fantastically enjoyable evening of cocktails, tasty hors d’oeuvres, hilarious live auction, “fishbowl raffle,” dancing & entertainment by the fabulous Nacho Men. Denise Plante of KOSI Radio & Channel 9’s morning show, Colorado & Company did a fabulous job as the emcee of the event.
The live auction items included an African safari, trips to Mexico & Las Vegas, hotel packages, a guest DJ spot on the Murphy & Denise show on KOSI Radio, and you could even become a character in best selling author Stuart Woods' next novel. In addition to the live auction there was a modified version called the “fishbowl raffle,” in which the contestant purchased tickets and dropped them into fish bowls and they were randomly selected. There were over 50 items to excite the crowd, from Nestle's chocolate to tickets to multiple events, airline trips, or even a tour and tasting at the Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey distillery.
Denise Plante is always flawless in her emcee duties, followed by the Nacho Men, who always get the room totally rockin'. It was once again a night to remember and a success for the programs at Project Safeguard.
Project Safeguard is a Colorado community based non-profit agency dedicated to ending violence experienced by women in intimate relationships. Effective and immediate advocacy and support is essential for women hoping to escape domestic violence. It is a difficult decision women make knowing they must reveal their most frightening secret to strangers, begin their lives over, face financial burdens and parenting challenges as well as the criminal and or civil justice systems. That is why Project Safeguard is there, to offer advocates who help navigate through the fright, uncertainty and complications of the system.
