Ballet Nouveau Colorado has a reputation in town for having some of the most creative, most unique ballet and performances around. The Gatsby Nouveau Roaring '20s party was no less of a unique event than their performances. The elegance of the already beautiful home of Dr. Gregory Buford and the finishing touches of this party organized by One Trick Pony Productions created a feel as though a time machine transported a group of energetic partygoers right out of the twenties and into Gregory’s home.
The energy of the party truly added to the excitement as everyone took on a new persona with their different costumes ranging from golfers to aviators to flappers to Zoot suited gangsters. The silent auction was full of artwork, jewelry and other fine items that made the auction look less like an auction and more like a showcase of fine arts. With two separate bars and a single hallway connecting the two, guests crossed paths often and the close quarters created a cozy feel for everyone to enjoy the night, while waiters carried trays of exquisite food catered by Three Tomatoes Catering. With items like bacon wrapped scallops and Petite "Monogrammed" Sliders, there were plenty of delights for any type of palette.
Late in the evening came the costume contest, which was certainly a tough decision. Categories were chosen for best couple and best single male and female. The most notable winner was Robin Richards, a teacher at Highline Academy in Denver, who wore her great grandmother's original flapper dress from the '20s!
While the party may have looked like just a fancy celebration and reason to get dressed up in fun outfits, it came through for Ballet Nouveau Colorado raising over $16,000 in total. While this is a small amount of the total goal for the three events of $100,000, this first event only had three weeks of lead time, so the following events should have no trouble meeting this goal to progress the mission of Ballet Nouveau Colorado. Starting at 8 and running until midnight, this occasion was an excellent extension of the idea that it can be a truly amazing time helping to raise money for a worthy cause. Diane Nagler noted her favorite quote of the evening as, “There’s a lot of glossy sexy people here for a house party/fundraiser.” There was no lack of sexy at this event.
The best word to describe this event would simply be, impressive. The feel of an event in a beautiful home like Dr. Buford’s instead of a meeting room or events hall gives a truly personal feel. With the next in this series of events named, “Miami Nouveau” and an attire theme of dressed to kill; this next one is not to be missed. It will be on June 13th from 8 p.m. to midnight at another beautiful Denver home, to be announced. And at this event there will be opportunities to bid on fantasy dates, including some with Denver’s most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes. Is the next party going to outdo the last? I guess you will have to come and see to find out!
