What do you have if you have 200 lawyers in a room? No punch line here folks. Over 200, passionate about the arts, people turned out to support the Colorado Lawyers for the Arts. For many, it was their visit to the unique Ravens Nest Art Center. But it won't be the last. This is a great facility for an artistic event, and it doubles as a real place for artists to work. Many thousands of dollars worth of art was hanging on the wall and available to take home. It was also a great opportunity for those who toil in the artistic vineyards to meet some of their ardent supporters and admirers. CoLA is the only organization in Colorado devoted exclusively to providing pro bono legal services and legal education to artists and arts organizations. Celebrating their 25th anniversary indicates that they must be doing something right. CoLA's goal is to ensure that artists and arts organizations succeed on their own creative abilities and that legal pitfalls don't derail the creative. Mayor Hickenlooper found time in his busy schedule to stop by and start the live auction. To show what a true supporter he is, he also purchased a painting. CoLA Chairman Mark Meagher of McKenna Long & Aldridge thanked everyone for coming and outlined the objectives of CoLA. There was something for everyone. Not only was there a plethora of paintings, but sculptor Valentin Okorokov did live sculpting for the crowd. For many, it was their first opportunity to see the creative process up so close. There was also wine, performance art by Z. Fine music by the DU Symphony Quartet, edible sculpture by Kacie of De Royale and personal ("framed") art by Optikon. After both the silent and live auctions closed, guests were treated to dessert and the music of Mysterioso. This evening of supporters of art from the heart won’t soon be forgotten.
