Planes, Cars, the Elegance has it all.
The third annual Morgan Adams Concours d’Elegance and road tour, held this year on August 27th, turned out to be a real success raising thousands of dollars, which will be donated to the Morgan Adams Foundation.
The foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life and survival rates of children diagnosed with pediatric cancer. Joan Slaughter and her husband Steven Adams started the foundation in 1998 to help cope with the loss of their child. The two lost their six-year-old daughter Morgan in 1998 to a brain tumor. The two began the Morgan Adams foundation in hopes that at least one child could be saved from childhood illnesses. Since its creation, the foundation has been able to raise almost $475,000.
The Concours d’Elegance kicked off with the Road tour at 9:00 AM. The road tour was open to rare and exotic vehicles and touring clubs from around the region. The tour lead these cars around the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and was intended as a non-competitive tour focused on fun an camaraderie between car owners.
At 6:00 that evening guests were welcomed to the Centennial Airport to view unique vintage automobiles and airplanes, while listening to live music and sampling food and beverages from many local restaurants. The event was held in two large airport hangers, and guest got the rare privilege to be allowed out on the runways to watch a flyover. Several of the airplanes on display flew over the Centennial Airport, as emcees Gary Shapiro from 9 News and Matt Iseman from the E! Network gave commentary.
After the planes had landed, many guests took the opportunity to speak with the pilots and get their pictures taken with them in front of their planes. A few were also lucky enough to have a look inside the planes.
Despite the success of the event there was a dark shadow cast upon the evening. The event lost one of the original event founders and organizers prior to the event. Brett Derosier passed away tragically in a plane accident on August 13th. Many felt it necessary to make this Concours d’Elegance the best event yet, and “something Brett would be proud of."
