What better way to launch a fun new game than with a night of comedy. SafeHouse Denver unveiled its newest fundraising effort amidst the stage lights at the Comedy Works in Downtown Denver.
SafeHouse Denver has been providing a full range of services to help victims of Domestic Violence since 1977. Through support programs such as their Counseling and Advocacy Center, Crisis Lines, and Emergency Shelter, SafeHouse Denver was able to care for 350 women and children just last year.
SafeHouse Denver in collaboration with Help on Board has created a unique board game that’s all about Denver. The game is called Denver on Board.
Ellen Stein Wallace began the ceremony with many thanks to the many sponsors in attendance, and to those who were unable to attend, for all their support to make Denver on Board possible.
She then began her presentation by reading a story aloud; members of the audience fell silent. This story was one of hardship and of despair and finally of hope and success. This story was a familiar one, it is one shared by most of the families who call SafeHouse home at some time or another.
“For the price of one board game, SafeHouse can operate the crisis line for one day.” Ellen Stein Wallace gives these statistics to the audience. She goes on to state that the profits of this game will help not only the crisis line, but the safe housing of many women and children during their stay as SafeHouse.
UPN 20 is going to sponsor a great television spot, which members of the audience were allowed a preview. The spot tells of the great board game, when, and where it will be sold. There will also be advertisements in the local paper and on the radio.
Shanna Gename of Help on Board gave a few words on behalf of her organization. She thanked Ellen Stein Wallace and her staff at SafeHouse Denver for their hard work and their enthusiasm. She also thanked all the sponsors of the board game because without them, the project would not have been possible.
Denver on Board is a real estate board game where players can buy and sell Denver business and attractions from The Children’s Museum to Red Rocks. Every piece of the game is customized to promote all that is Denver, right down to the Loews Denver Hotel game pieces.
Beginning November 21, 2005, the Denver on Board will be for sale at Tattered Cover Book Stores, and at Zelda’s gift shop. The game is also available at Make the Difference Network website, www.mtdn.com. The cost of the game is $34.99 and all net proceeds will go to support SafeHouse Denver.
