The ghost of Temple Buell hovered over his mansion in Cherry Hills Village, Jan. 26, when Cancer League of Colorado kicked off its Spring Benefit, Turquoise and Tuxs.
It may have been a tight fit for more supporters to get in the door during cocktail hour, as well over 100 supporters showed up to sign up for committees, pledge corporate or personal underwriting and get a gander at the white 2006 Jeep Commander Limited 4x4, which has an MSRP of $43,085. Raffle tickets went well, especially after gala chairs announced that Front Range Chrysler Jeep Dealers who outright gave the auto to Cancer League also announced that if the winner didn’t want that Jeep they could swap it for another auto of similar value. That kind of commitment to a nonprofit is, as far as we know, unheard of and is to be commended.
Linda Goto, Lorraine Salazar, Vicki Dow and Karen Weslar chaired the kickoff party for gala chairs Cindy Goldberg and Georgia Mucilli and with a rather lavish buffet donated by Occasions by Sandy, the party was a major hit and President Jennifer O’Neill was all smiles.
Longtime Cancer League supporters and past presidents Edie Marks and Dave Weisberg are chairing the live auction. Kaye Music is overall auction chair, buddy Barb Reece is heading the corporate effort and Rosalie Margolis is in charge of the art auction. A total of 18 people are on the auction committees as this gala has traditionally focused on art bids with some pieces outright donations.
Artist Carrie Fell is designing artwork for invitations, Marsha Lunnon is raffle chair, Sandy Arkin is handling check-in, Laura Barton is in charge of addressing and Diana Anderson is heading reservations. Roberta Johnson is working on the patron party.
Among those at the kickoff and not previously mentioned were David and Dian Goldberg, Laurie and David Gaspar, Sandy and Dave Evans, Jan, Russ and Diana Anderson, Judy Dennis, Darrell and Lise Brown, Heather Fox, Bob and Marty Gathers, Leo Goto, David and Terry Appel, Alan Margolis, Monty Music, Gary Reece, Dorothy Pearson, Brian O’Neill, Bob and Brian Richardson, Jane Mayberry and hubby Mark Korell, Jean and Taylor Simonton, Ellen Stewart, Ruth Warmath, Joyce and Jim Wilson, Jane Yant, Andy Markusfield, Betty Howe, Steve Guenin and Jane Hampe.
Cancer League of Colorado is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization composed entirely of volunteers. The Cancer League has no paid staff and no offices. All operating expenses are covered by membership dues. Cancer League now has more than 400 volunteer members who help raise funds for selected cancer-related organizations for research and education.
University of Colorado Cancer Research Center Director, Dr. Paul Bunn is the May 6th gala honoree. The league is having the benefit at the new Hyatt Regency at the Colorado Convention Center and guests will be checking out the facility, which has several massive ballrooms.
