Organizers from Clinica Tepeyac honored those helping the 13-year-old nonprofit health clinic "forge the future of a healthy community" in a festive fundraiser Saturday evening, June 9. The recognition took place during the organization's annual Fiesta on the Plaza fundraiser at the Belmar Events Center in Lakewood.
Clinica Tepeyac's board of directors and staff saluted the efforts of the organization's caring partners and volunteers, including the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure, which was presented with the clinic's 2007 Outstanding Community Partner Award. Clinic Volunteer Dr. Mimi Saveedra was also honored for her services via the 2007 Founders' Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service. Special recognition was shared with Cecelia Canales, host of Clinica Tepeyac's weekly health-focused radio show, "El Salud es Primero", which airs 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday mornings on KMXA 1090-AM. Clinica Tepeyac also saluted the efforts of Dick and Eric Heiney, the owners of DC General Services, the construction firm responsible for the major renovation of the organization's new 3,800 square-foot health clinic in Globeville.
Hosted for the first time by CBS4 News reporter Michelle Griego, Clinica Tepeyac's "Fiesta On the Plaza: Forging the Future of a Healthy Community" was an inspiration-filled evening with dinner, dancing, spectacular silent and live auctions and entertainment. The event's honorary chairs were Wells Fargo Bank Vice President Pat Cortez and her husband Manuel Martinez, a partner with the firm Holmes, Roberts and Owens, LLC. Additional financial support for the event was provided by Wells Fargo Bank. The event's official media sponsor is Univision Colorado. Proceeds from the event, including the silent and live auctions, will go directly to the provision of medical services and health education to families throughout metro Denver.
Entering its second decade, Clinica Tepeyac was founded in 1994 by parishioners of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Located at 5075 Lincoln St., Clinica Tepeyac offers more than 30 hours of patient visits each week for men, women and teens. In 2006 alone, Clínica Tepeyac provided services to over 10,000 men, women and children! This year's event raised over $100,000 and the live auction raised $17,000.
