As Kempe Alliance members arrived on the afternoon of June 20 to begin to set up for the summer fundraiser for the Kempe Foundation Alliance, "Salt on the Rim," they felt a sense of anticipation. They dedicated their time and energy in the sweltering heat to put together one of the most colorful and spirited get-togethers of the summer, and they did it all because of the important and prevelant issue, the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect.
Little did the members know that their efforts would be so appreciated and successful, as more than 250 guests converged in the back garden of the palacial home of John and Anna Sie in Cherry Hills Village. "Spirited" was a very apt description all around as guests indulged in blue margaritas, Mexican fiesta dishes created by Alliance members and lively conversation.
Silent and live auction items galore were available to help raise funds (which topped more than $12,000, according to auction chairs!) for the Kempe programs, and guests were welcomed first by Alliance president Mary Tabacchi and followed up with comments by CW2 meterologist Jason Boyer and Chairman of the Board, Steve Demby.
The epitomy of dedication and hard work was recognized in the presentation of a gift to Georgia Imhoff, whose name is synonomous with Kempe in the Denver community for her tireless efforts on behalf of the Kempe Foundation Alliance. The crowd raised their margarita glasses to pay tribute to Georgia.
As the sun began to set and the party began to wind down, the organizers looked around and felt a great sense of satisfaction, knowing that if even one child sleeps better because of these efforts, everything is worth it.
