The 2007 Children's Hospital Courage Classic, the 18th annual three-day, 157-mile tour, was held on July 21, 22 and 23, 2007. The tour began in Leadville and traveled through Copper Mountain, Frisco, Keystone, Breckenridge, Lake Dillon and back to Leadville. There were over 2,000 riders, more than 100 teams, 65 volunteer marshals and 17 aid stations this year.

It is said that when you ride The Children's Hospital Courage Classic or Taste of Courage, you're setting yourself up for adventures ... of the body, the spirit and the heart. You will test your physical endurance as you ride 157 miles through the glorious Colorado Rockies over three days, push yourself up Vail Pass, glide down the bike path from Copper Mountain to Dillon, climb up Fremont Pass and cross the finish line on Monday. You will see what your spirit is made of as you try for your personal best—whether that is simply getting on your bike and riding for the first time in years or riding 100 miles on Sunday. And you will find your heart filling as you watch Team Courage riding their tandem bicycles along this challenging course, knowing they are riding to say thank you for the care they received at The Children's Hospital.

You will also become part of a treasured community—supporters of The Children's Hospital—and as you raise money come to understand just how important this institution is to people you know. For the past 99 years, The Children's Hospital has been helping kids from across Colorado, the Rocky Mountain region and the United States heal from illnesses and injuries.

The goal of this year's Courage Classic was to raise over $2.1 million by August 31, 2007. It appears that this goal is well within reach. Approximately 2,000 riders rode over three days for the annual bicycle tour, which is one of the largest fundraising events for The Childrens Hospital Foundation. Participants rode through hail, rain, and sunshine. Sure, there were some scrapes and sore muscles, but everyone said it was worth the effort. All who rode had a wonderful time. At the end of the tour, eight Children's Hospital Ambassadors handed medals to each rider who finished - each hosting a huge smiles on their face.

Since its inception, and thanks to thousands of generous participants and supporters, The Children’s Hospital Courage Classic has raised more than $17 million for the hospital. Last year’s event was a record breaker with 2,000 riders raising more than $2 million. These funds allow Children’s to continue the construction of its state-of-the-art facility on the Fitzsimons campus and continue to provide important programs throughout the community, including The Hospital Sports Program, The Children’s Hospital Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, The Children’s Hospital Heart Institute and the Newborn Center. These programs are nationally lauded as being among the best for kids.

Thus far, the top three teams who raised money this year were Team Research Riders who raised $258,582.69 -- Team Wheels of Justice who raised $146,201.97; and Team SPIN DOCTORS who raised $88,897.61. The largest family (non institutional) team was Team Dakota Red who raised $59,221.00. The top contributing individual rider was Tina McLaughlin, having raised $18,550.00 this year! The top fundraiser received a 7 day/6 night European bicycling tour from VBT Bicycle Touring.

Children's is one of the nation's top pediatric research hospitals, trains more pediatricians and pediatric specialists than any other hospital in the region and ensures kids' health issues are in front of our local, state and federal legislators. U.S. News & World Report and CHILD Magazine both rank The Children's Hospital as one of the top 10 pediatric hospitals in the United States.

Bright. Warm. Healing. Radiant. Positive. Wonderful. These are all words that have been used to describe The new Children’s Hospital at Fitzsimons. As Children's Hospital approaches the opening date of September 29, 2007, the reality of this wonderful new facility is just around the corner -- all possible by donations and fund-raising events.
