Art supporters gather at Project Angel Hearts Art for Life
It was one fun and fabulous evening as Project Angel Heart held the 2007 Art for Life benefit on Friday September 7th. Over 500 guests came to view, and bid on, the work of more than 100 artists who participated in this fundraiser.
One of the event's presenters, Abend Gallery, located at Colfax and York in Denver, once again welcomed the many guests and supporters to a silent auction of some extraordinary art pieces which were donated by local, regional and national artists. The local artists line-up included featured artist, Michelle Torrez, who donated a piece titled "Peacock Air." Her piece was also available as a poster print with all proceeds going to Project Angel Heart.
Other local artists included Quang Ho, Lu Cong, Mikael Olsen, Ken Valastro, Sandra Pratt and Jim Beckner. New to this year's event was the unique automated bidding. A new Australian vodka from Cooranbong was donated and featured as a signature drink - the Angel Martini.
The patio behind the Abend Gallery was a favorite spot as guests enjoyed the beautiful fall evening and the company of friends and fellow supporters. It was a lively and colorful place to meet and mingle and talk art. By the size of the crowd that had filled the gallery, the laughter and happy faces of those who came to support this event, one would conclude that it was a very successful evening for Art for Life. Not only will there be many happy guests taking home a newly acquired piece of art, but everyone who attended, volunteered or participated will know that the real success of Art for Life will help Project Angel Heart deliver over 375,00 free meals to 1,500 men, women and children this year. So it was with very generous hearts, that over $70,000 from the art auction was raised this evening, with over $100,000 in all - including sponsorships, that will benefit Project Angel Heart.
The mission of Project Angel Heart is to promote the health, dignity and self-sufficiency of people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses by providing nutritious, home-delivered meals with care and compassion.
