The 20th Annual Fantasy Ball “20 Years of Heart and Soul,” benefiting The Adoption Exchange, took place Saturday, November 17 at the Donald R. Seawell Grand Ballroom.
The ballroom was packed with approximately 510 guests mingling and bidding on more than 150 silent auction items. Guests enjoyed appetizers and cocktails followed by dinner and dancing to Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year Marcia Ball.
This year the Adoption Exchange presented the 2007 Wednesday’s Child Award to Dave and Gail Liniger, co-founders of RE/MAX International, Inc., and owners of the Sanctuary Golf Course, for their generosity with providing the Sanctuary Golf Course for The Adoption Exchange annual charitable golf tournament. Each year nearly 100 non-profit organizations apply to hold charity golf events at the Sanctuary Golf Course. After a lengthy application process, the Adoption Exchange was selected in the fall of 2001 and has been a chosen organization for the past six years.
Kevin and Marlene Lapczynski and their four girls, ages 8 through 15, presented the Wednesday’s Child Award to the Dave and Gail Liniger. At the same time, Kevin and Marlene were also celebrating a triumph on that night. Their four girls were officially adopted on November 17 through the help of the Adoption Exchange and Jefferson County Social Services. Currently there are approximately 774 children waiting for families in the state of Colorado. Since December, Kevin and Marlene have been working hard toward adopting the four girls all at the same time, as they didn’t want to see the girls split from each other. “This has been a very long process, but now the girls are my forever family and we are so happy to move forward,” Marlene Lapczynski said.
Also at the event this year, guests entered a raffle for “his and her” scooters and the bidding was high and lively for the live auction which included an 18K white gold and diamond heart bracelet and ring donated by Oster Jewelers, a week long stay at bed and breakfast in Hawaii, a foursome at the Sanctuary Golf Course and a wine cellar comprised of a variety of spectacular wines and dinner for eight called, A Night in Tuscany” with Epicurean catering.
Funds raised at the Fantasy Ball will be used for the recruitment of families for children who are waiting to be adopted into permanent homes. The proceeds enable The Adoption Exchange to provide monetary and educational support to families who otherwise would not be able to afford adoption. The Adoption Exchange was founded in 1983 and provides connection between families who are hoping to adopt and children who wait in foster care for a permanent home.
