A top o’ the evening it was on St. Patrick’s Day in the mile-high city of Denver. This was the fourth annual “Green Tie” event fundraiser for the Metro Community Provider Network (MCPN), which provides medical care at no cost to families who have limited or no access to health care.
500 tickets were available for this event in the Seawell Ballroom at the Denver Center for Performing Arts, and all were sold out! Bob Kendrick, 9News anchor, was the master of ceremonies for the evening. Bob entertained the audience with Irish jokes and thanked MCPN for having him there again to partake in the festivities.
The entertainment of the evening included Ireland's fabulous ladies, "The Bridies", who include the lead fiddle soloists Maire Egan and Brenda Curtin from Michael Flatleys "Lord of the Dance Show." The Bridies graced the audience with a blend of Celtic music, song, dance and comedy that was just incredible. MCPN was thrilled to have "Strictly Irish" perform again this evening as well. As Denver's only professional Irish dance troupe, Strictly Irish exploded with exhilarating dance performances.
The program included a presentation to MCPN of an awesome gift from King Soopers: a check for $55,000! Also, some awards were presented to those whose commitment, dedication and support were unparalleled, and very much appreciated:
In March of 2004, MCPN applied for a nonprofit preservation endowment challange grant in the amount of $200,000 from the LMC Community Foundation. Consequently, the annual St. Patrick's Day Green Tie event was invented to raise funds to match MCPN endowment building efforts. The endowment fund as of today has grown to the amount of $988,709.59. MCPN's service area includes all the city of Aurora and Arapahoe and Jefferson Counties. Services within the area are developed to provide primary health care for people who have no other access to health care. A family practice model of health care is supported by case management services, pharmacy services, and other coordination efforts to remove barriers to health care. Well child care, immunizations, obstetrics, gynecology, and chronic disease management are among the most often-requested services. Staff, fluent in languages other than English, help remove cultural barriers to care.
The event once again boasted a wonderful dinner and silent auction, and it was a great time to "Go Green."
