Saturday night at the Hyatt Regency Tech Center was the place to be for The Hope Ball, The Cancer League of Colorado's annual Spring gala which benefits primary cancer research and service grants within Colorado.
This year the Cancer League honored Elaine Wolf, Sandy Wolf-Yearick and the Melvin & Elaine Wolf Foundation for their numerous, generous contributions to Cancer League and the Denver community.
A packed house of over 600 people began the evening bidding on silent auction items to benefit the Cancer League of Colorado. Before dinner was even served the guests of the Cancer League of Colorado had raised over $81,000. KUDOS!!
After the completion of the silent auction, patrons funnelled into the dining area as Master of Ceremonies Michael Nelson (7News) and President Barbara Reece welcomed and thanked everyone for their generosity. Next on the agenda was the live auction, which featured items such as a trip for four to NY for a live taping of The View, elk hunting in Wyoming, a vacation in either Cabo San Lucas, Scottsdale or Snowmass, and a travel package with the Denver Broncos, to mention a few things. One other item that generated quite a buzz was the auction of a Dodge 2008 Nitro by Dealing Doug Moreland. Great items for a great cause.
The evening took another step up with an outstanding performance by Richard Street and The Temptations, who sang the title song for the Cancer League Gala, "Just My Imagination," among other favorites.
More about the Cancer League of Colorado ... In 1969, five women, whose lives were all affected by cancer, founded Cancer League of Colorado. From their individual struggles grew a joint commitment to raise money for cancer research and patient care within the state of Colorado. This all-volunteer charity organization became Cancer League of Colorado, Inc. Since 1985, they have awarded over $5 million in research grants and service awards.
Cancer League of Colorado, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization composed entirely of volunteers. Unique to non-profits, Cancer League has no paid staff and no offices. All operating expenses are covered by membership dues. Cancer League now has more than 375 volunteer members who share the commitment to fight cancer.
The Cancer League's philosophy states that, "We are a cohesive, caring group with close relations among our members to work toward our goal of fundraising to find a cure for cancer." Their bylaws require that all of the money received through fundraising efforts be dispersed each year at the direction of their Scientific Advisory Board or Funds Allocation Committee. For more information, please visit: http://cancerleague.org.
