Denver's favorite couple, John and Janet Elway, are long-time supporters of the Western Fantasy gala
For first-timers to Denver's Western Fantasy Gala, three things stood out: the ballroom smelled like a horse barn; male guests wore black-tie from the waist up and Levi's and Tony Lamas below: and many, many pleathers gave up their lives so Denver women could look like Faith Hill on this particular evening.
Party-circuit regulars declared the gala one of the best parties in memory. The credit in part goes to country duo Brooks & Dunn, who had the crowd of 1,200 on their feet dancing or jamming the stage for the last half of the night.
Western Fantasy trail boss Sharon Magness set the tone by presenting the colors in the arena atop Thunder, her Arabian horse. Then, at the auction following dinner, she proceded to run up the bidding on several items, finally carting home a classic Harley-Davidson and tickets to 100 upcoming rock concerts. Magness , who founded the mega-fund-raiser eight years ago, closed the evening with brief appearance on stage, hoofing it to a Brooks & Dunn tune with four other brave women.
Denver's "A" list was out in force for this fun event. Famous faces included Phyllis Coors and Robert McNamara; Pat and Annabel Bowlen; Leo and Linda Goto; Mary Rossick Kern and Jerry Kern; Mark and Cathy Koebrich; Ed and Barbara Greene; VOA president and CEO Diana Kunz; Nancy and Chuck Sagar; Eddie and Susan Robinson; Steve and Christel Dikeman; and Lee Hart.
