Mayor Hickenlooper congratulates one half of the men's double's winner's Andy Berg
There is a glut of golf tournaments every summer in Denver. Doesn't anyone play tennis anymore? As it turns out they do. Even on the day that the semi-finals between Nidal and Murray at the US Open Tennis Championship are taking place.
And it fell to Loan Vo, Josh Hanfling and Blacktie's Kenton Kuhn to arrange the premiere tennis tourney of the year. Loan (pronounced Low Anne) had participated in the Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation program as a youngster (known as "Dreamers" ) and wanted to give back.
So the CIHADF, as it is known affectionately, along with the Net Results organization were chosen as beneficiaries of the 1st annual, Tennis With the Stars tournament.
The beautiful Gates Tennis Center in Cherry Creek provided the setting, and their recent remodel served as a wonderful base of operations. Men's and women's doubles started at 11:00 am and went to 3:00, when the championship rounds began. Then at 4;00 pm, the matches with the celebrities began. Those individuals who had won the tournaments were matched up with celebrity players including: Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrisey, Opie Gone Bad's Jake Schroder and professional tennis players like Cory Ross, Andy Zodin, Sarah Zodin, Jeff Salzenstein, Peter Braun and club owner Troy Lowrie.

Mayor John Hickenlooper showed up to watch, but is a pretty fair player in his own right. The celebrities played tough and afterward all enjoyed a party. the crowd remarked that DA Mitch morrisey is not only tough in court but on the court as well. In the end, the left hand Morrisey and his partner Jean "john"Bouquet, finished second to Andy Berg and Salzenstein. Salzenstein was once ranked 100 in singles in the world and 68 in doubles, but Morrisey and Bouquet played tough.

Afterwards, spectators and players alike were treated to great treats from the Red Walrus and great drinks from Jim Beimford of Orchid Liqueurs.
So, next year, skip the links and look to play in this great tournament.
Yup, that's Nugget's coach George Karl serving as a line judge. He's excited about next season.
