One thing we all share in common is a passion for kids and a passion for golf! This year’s Goodwill Golf Classic brings together these two passions in one fun-filled day of golf. The tournament theme: Driving for Diplomas tells the story.

Goodwill is helping to keep at-risk kids in school until they graduate and helps them focus on their futures. With one-third of our youth dropping out each year, I can’t think of a more important and timely purpose.

Goodwill Industries of Denver’s 6th Annual Big O Tires Goodwill Golf Classic Presented by CareerBuilder.com was held at Green Gables Country Club on Monday, September 15, 2008. Green Gables Country Club is located in Denver/Lakewood, Colorado.

The 19th hole party included the sounds of the renowned mandolin performer Charlie Provenza & Gypsy Mandolin while the players and sponsors enjoyed tasty, complimentary appetizers and drinks. The players and sponsors were also given the opportunity to challenge magician Gregg Tobo to a $5 hand of poker to see if they could "beat the cheat.". A unique fund-raising opportunity, players placed their bets as Gregg uses his sleight of hand skill and an astonishing streak of 'good luck' to raise money for Goodwill.

This year, there was a special guest at the 19th hole reception. A remarkable young woman named Niishia Hysaw. Niishia spoke in her own words about how Goodwill reached out to help her when she needed it most. Niisha has already accomplished great things. She is the recipient of the prestigious Daniels Scholarship and is a current student at Metro State.

Goodwill serves as a link between the education and business communities by providing intensive, classroom-based career development services to more than 20,000 students in 27 area schools. These programs help students stay in school, graduate and prepare for post-secondary education or immediate entry into the workplace following graduation. Goodwill’s youth programs are proactive, preventative programs designed to help teens establish real-world connections between education, career development and the local business community.

Framed by the Rockies and bordered by Ward Lake, the Arthur Hills course at Green Gables delivered exciting play at each and every hole. The signature wide fairways added an extra level of excitement to the game, encouraging players to let 'em loose from the tees. The risk-and-reward style of the course offered near-endless versatility. And while the course challenged players of the most enviable ability, it remained cleverly unpretentious, offering memorable rounds and rewards for every handicap player.

Green Gables Golf Course was recently redesigned by the renowned Arthur Hills. With a resume of well over 300 courses worldwide, and innumerable design awards to his credit, there’s certainly a reason the golfing world at large regards Arthur Hills as one of the game’s great architects. A single round of championship play at Green Gables is more than enough to understand why.
