The Gathering Place is Denver’s only daytime drop-in center for women and children who are experiencing homelessness or poverty. On any given evening in Denver, more than 9,000 people have no place to sleep. Of these, 36% are children under the age of 19. The Gathering Place provides food, shelter, warmth, safety and cleanliness; a caring structured environment for kids while their mothers get back on their feet; opportunities for education, job training and personal development; links to community resources and programs and opportunities to share experiences and receive support.

The Gathering Place Association (TGPA) supports the efforts of the shelter, with various fundraisers and volunteer drives throughout the year. The Gathering Place Association wrapped up their Fall membership drive on Wednesday, November 19th, with a cocktail party, “Girls Night Out On Old Gaylord." The Floridian inspired restaurant, Max Gill & Grill, was the destination, and guests enjoyed drinks and conversation in the restaurant’s back room, the “Tiki Bar.” Delicious hors d’oeurves were also served, including shrimp skewers, crab stuffed mushrooms, chicken wings, and assorted dips and veggies.

Lauren Naylor, President of the Association, welcomed over 40 women in attendance. Guests learned more about the happenings of the shelter, calendar events such as December’s Holiday Fair, as well as many volunteer opportunities within the ladies auxiliary. The coordinators and membership committee have also set up an online registration for membership with The Gathering Place Association through PayPal at: www.TGP-A.org.
