On Thursday the 29th of January, The Oxford Hotel was transformed into an enchanting ocean floor for the 14th annual Red Wine & Seafood celebration, hosted by The Volunteers of America Guild. The fundraiser was organized to benefit the Brandon Center and the Theodora House. Volunteers of America is a faith-based human service nonprofit organization that helps low-income families and children, homebound seniors, and women and children seeking refuge from domestic violence and homelessness. In total, their organization offers over 30 human service programs in America, one of them being the Theodora House; an overnight shelter for homeless women with no children.
But on this particular night, supporters of the Guild were in high spirits, as guests enjoyed an evening of unique red wines provided by Southern Wine and Spirits, paired with delicious entrees by Chef Stephen Vice, of McCormick's Fish House. Each dish brought a different style and flavor to the Under the Sea theme. In one corner guests munched on a colorful array of sushi. In another corner, small bites of salmon schmear and pan fried noodles taunted the tastebuds of those in attendance.
Located in the Historic Oxford Hotel, the Fish House is a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists alike. In addition, there was an array of mouthwatering desserts catered to those with a sweeter tooth, presented by Gateaux Specialty Cakes and Pastries. Guests stuffed their bellies with as much food and wine as they could bear, but fortunately were given the opportunity to work some of it off to the vibrant music of The Andrew Hudson and Friends Jazz Band. For a few songs, we were also honored with the vocal stylings of Margie Mauldin, who looked gorgeous in a long black dress and sang even better to the jazzy tunes of the band.
Throughout the night, guests could view and bid on pieces from the silent auction, which consisted of items such as get-aways to some Rocky Mountain resorts, massages from local Denver massage therapists and tickets to the opening night of Spamalot, a popular pop-culture music. A great time was had by all--ending the night with full stomachs and wonderful support for the Volunteers of America.
