It's true... the Howard Dental Bingo Ball is not your Grandmother's bingo. It is so much more - sassy, exciting, a little bit wild and a whole lot of fun! Not to mention there is a great cause involved, so everyone is a winner... BINGO!
The Howard Dental Bingo Ball held it's 3rd Annual Bingo Ball on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Invesco Field at Mile High. And it was once again a night to remember for over 300 guests who joined in to offer their dedicated support, bid on a huge selection of silent and live auction items, dine on some fabulous food and, of course, play a little Bingo.
The evening began with a cocktail hour as guests placed their bids on some interesting silent auction items and enjoyed some socializing. Then everyone was invited to go through the buffet stations provided by Epicurean Catering, which included some all time favorite foods like mac & cheese, BBQ chicken, mashed potatoes and a veal meatloaf. No one went hungry here. Individually decorated cupcakes were set out later in the evening for a light dessert.
After some time to enjoy the dinner, emcee Mike Nelson jumped on stage to welcome everyone. He introduced Howard Dental President, Joseph Mauro, who came on stage bearing bouquets of roses to present to the evening's co-hosts, Christopher Walker and Cindy Nelson in appreciation of their endless efforts and commitment to the cause. A short video about Howard Dental was then shown before it was time to begin the live auction. Mike Nelson, with the help of his lovely wife and co-host, Cindy Nelson, played auctioneer, offering some rather fabulous items, such as a Buddy 50 Scooter, VIP tickets to see Jimmy Kimmel Live, an opportunity to drive an Indy Race car and a tour of 7News studio along with a private dinner with the Nelsons. This last item was confirmed by last year's winner, to indeed be a fun time.
After another brief video, in which Howard Dental was featured as a 7News Everyday Hero, it was time to begin the fun and games. It was Bingo time! Celebrity Bingo caller Nuclia Waste graced the stage and got the crowd really going by first having everyone stand and say the Bingo Player's Pledge--which states that anyone claiming to have a Bingo without having a full and complete bingo, would be subject to receiving the.....Gasp!.... Bingo Kiss of Death. All the more fun and drama. Guests had an obviously fun time playing Bingo as winners ran up to the stage, waving bingo cards and high five-ing around the room. There was lots of cheering, as well as a few groans from not having that one last bingo number. But it was all in good fun and the best part, it was all for a good cause.
The evening wrapped up as guests hit the dance floor, with and without their dancing shoes. This was truly the most fun one can have playing Bingo. Seriously, don't miss this fun and sassy good time when it rolls around next year!
Howard Dental Center began as a collaborative effort between dentists and dental educators who were concerned about the lack of oral health services available for people living with HIV/AIDS. The Center began seeing HIV+ patients on December 16, 1994. It was named in memory of Dr. John Howard who was one of the first dentists in the community to treat patients with HIV and AIDS. On an annual basis, Howard Dental performs close to 6,000 dental procedures and treat 450 patients. For every dollar spent in expenses, they produce $1.13 worth of services. Howard Dental has successfully created a model that provides the highest level of quality care with successful results. Howard Dental Center is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization providing the full range of oral health care for adults, youth and children living with HIV/AIDS. Their mission is to offer the highest quality treatment to their patients in a compassionate, professional atmosphere. For patients who are HIV+, regular oral health appointments can make a huge difference. With the assistance of Howard Dental, many patients can be prevented from moving to an AIDS diagnosis through an oral examination.
