It was another rainy day for events in Denver but judging from the full house that packed into the Tuscany Restaurant and Bar at Loews Denver for Rebuilding Together's kickoff celebration - giving spirits were not dampened!

The group enjoyed wine and appetizers while chatting with fellow guests and Rebuilding team members. Tomboy Tools was on hand with a dry wall demonstration and great tool bags, both in pink and in blue, which were a huge hit. A table encouraging participation in the Colorado Colfax Marathon with the Rebuilding Team Relay was available for signup. Autographed photos with the Denver Bronco Alumni attendees and ABC Bachelor Jesse Csinsak were available nearby.

CEO Laurie McCaw welcomed guests to the event by extending special thanks to all donors who gave generously in spite of the current economy. This will be Rebuilding Together's 10th year of service in the Denver metro area, in their ongoing quest to bring comfort and safety within the home to Denver residents in need. She spoke of the strong community efforts to help people stay in their home with warmth, safety and independence - a few facts: For every dollar donated to Rebuilding Together, $3.00 is leveraged into services and supplies. A $10 donation provides 1-2 grab bars for a frail homeowner.

Denver Broncos Alumni Dave Preston, Willie Oshodin and Tyrone Braxton were on hand to speak about their experiences as part of the Rebuilding Day teams and shared some humorous anecdotes of learning as they went! Dave "Sarge" Preston said, jokingly, that after their first project, they were only needed for verbal support - since the Rebuilding staff had to go in and redo everything they did! On a more serious note, Tyrone Braxton spoke of the fulfillment of seeing tangible results come from putting in the time and seeing the work completed at each home.

Extraordinary volunteers were honored with plaques commemerating their work - Tyler Jones and Hunts Kretsch were glad to receive them and enjoyed the evening amongst the guests.

Glen Renner of Rebuilding Together gave a brief overview of the programs offered - most Rebuilding Days, (upcoming this April 25th) Home for All Seasons (minor repairs) and most notably, the Emergency Home Repairs program, which responds to urgent needs that threaten the immediate safety of low income home owners, such as furnace and water heater breakdowns. 945 people will be served in Denver 2009 through all three programs. Glendale Mayor Larry Harte was on hand with praise for the program as well.

This is a phenomenal group of dedicated people. And judging from the event, they also know how to have fun while doing good!
