Lakewood Country Club was the perfect setting for the 7th annual Goodwill Golf Tournament. It was a beautiful and sunny on the last day of August. It was heated up before it even started as 130 golfers raised a whooping $5,000 in donations just for Mulligan’s. A very competitive crowd.  They were also treated to a bloody mary’s, cigars and lunch provided by Einstein’s.

During the day the golfers enjoyed many activities out at the holes like a martini ice luge, energy hole with energy drinks and bars, margaritas or one of two chance at a one- in one for a Mazda 3 from Sill TerHar or Rolex’s by Williams Jeweler’s for the entire foursome.

At about 5:30 pm the golfers starting tallying their scores and realized there was a tie for first with a score of 52. A Lakewood golf pro using PGA regulations scoring settled the tie with the DHR International - Martin Pocs teaming winning first place!

The 19th Hole Silent Auction and Celebration in Lakewood’s ballroom was offering enticing appetizer stations. Fortunately, the golfers couldn't miss the open bar or antipasti at the entrance to the 19th Hole. Lakewood Chef, Jan Vonada was hustling up dishes such as mushroom ravioli with alfredo sauce, cavatappi pasta in vodka cream sauce and pasta puntenesca. Inside the ballroom were tables of Asian cusine, carving station and a dessert table.

Radio host Tom Manoogian aka Lou from Littleton, got the auction going by introducing Joyce Schlose, Goodwill’s VP of Workforce Development, who graciously thanked all the participants for being there. She wanted everyone to know about the students who have greatly benefitted from the sponsors and golfers of the Golf Classic. She talked about how money raised goes to support programs that help students get through school and prepare for their future. She pointed out that many of these youth continued to go to school even though they have challenging conditions like living in cars. She praised the donors for giving dreams back to these students.

Keith Braxton, President of Colorado Casualty, a gold sponsor, was introduced and asked to hand the scholarships to the five students; Luis Vargas, Yadiro Solis, Johnny Alvarado, Jesus Trevizo and Marketta Briscoe. Manoogian took the mic again and started his auctioneering talents. At live auction's close, the money raised was well over $15,000. Helping to up the fundraising were big ticket auction items that brought in the bucks: Breckenridge house rental; Exclusive Resorts vacation; Denver Broncos luxury box and the Mexican golf vacation at Estrella Del Mar Golf & Beach resort.

What a tremendously successful evening for Goodwill’s friends and supporters. The goal for the 19th Hole Auction was $25,000 and the total raised for the day was over $146,000. Thanks to the generous and caring donations from sponsors and golfers, Goodwill is teeing up for another tournament next August 30, 2010.
