What will local celebrities do to earn money for a good cause? Plenty, as guests found out at the fifth annual Concerts for Kids Celebrity Waiter Fundraiser, held Sept. 25 at Elway’s in Cherry Creek.
Throughout the evening, around 500 diners enjoyed the sumptuous dinner menu from Elway’s—cash tips for "Truth or Dare"-type antics passed from customers to celebrities, and directly on to more than 30 non-profits supported by Concerts for Kids. Celebs dished out charm and impromptu entertainment in heaping helpings of boisterous good fun...the end result was like a Talent Show Gone Wild. Most dressed up in costume (at least we hope that’s what they were intended to be), and a few belted out karaoke tunes for extra dollars. Others signed autographs and everyone in the restaurant clearly had a great time. Nationally known comedian Dom Irrera entertained with a short set early on, and four local firefighters featured in the 2010 Fired Up For Kids calendar fanned the flames of admiring females. The entire crew of genial celebs posed for photos throughout the evening—despite the fact that most shots have obvious tabloid potential.
Christie Isenberg, president and co-founder of the organization, said, “We are excited to have our event once again at Elway’s. The food, atmosphere and staff are the perfect combination to make our event a success.” Staff members said they always look forward to this particular fundraiser as much as their guests. And why not? Great food, off-the-wall fun and money raised for kids’ charities are a winning combination.
