South American dancing and an Iron Chef contest featuring South American entrees set the tone for the eighth annual Alliance Foundation Fundraiser, Passport to South America.  The Alliance Foundation is the charitable arm of the Alliance of Professional Women.

The Iron Chef Contest was organized the School of Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Management, University of Denver (HRTM), which also hosted the evening.  Each of the four Iron Chef teams was comprised of four volunteers from the guest list and a HRTM student. Two chefs, Kate Bowen and Shellie Kark, and sous chef Carol Condolora judged the results for flavor, presentation and furtherance of the South American theme.

Salsa dancing lessons were led by Vicky Ford of DanzArtZ Studio.  About a third of the 100 patrons took advantage of Vicky's experience and expertise.  Later Vicky and Michael Kimble presented a stirring Mambo demonstration.

The Alliance of Professional Women is a soft networking organization composed of professional women in the Denver metropolitan area. For over twenty years, Alliance events have focused on providing a relaxed, fun, friendly atmosphere where long-term relationships and professional referrals are fostered.

The Alliance of Professional Women is unique among womens’ networking organizations in Denver. They are a “one-stop shop” for:

  • Support from other women in a vast array of professions and career stages.
  • Networking and FUN. There are monthly networking luncheons at restaurants throughout the Denver area. The Alliance hosts Business After Hours events like Spa Night, Wine Cheese and Chocolate Tasting and feature a variety of speakers and panel discussions. The Alliance Foundation hosts fundraisers each year with themes like City Lights Boardwalk Nights and Passport to South America.
  • Educational opportunities through their Continuing Education for-credit courses and through their Roundtable Program which provides a “mastermind” group of business advisors in a confidential setting.

The Alliance Foundation was founded by members of The Alliance of Professional Women in 1994.  Its purpose is to improve the lives of women and girls in the international community with their Village Bank program and in the local community by awarding college scholarships.
