The 11th annual JDRF Dream Gala was set at the United Club Level of INVESCO Field, overlooking the mile high skyline. A fitting location for an event that raised mile high amounts of dollars for diabetes research.
The night started with Youth Ambassadors escorting guests up towards the club level while enjoying a live violin performance. At the club level guests enjoyed Patron cocktails while bidding on the numerous tables filled with silent auction items. A drum-line led guests into the main ballroom for dinner. Libby Weaver, anchor of Fox-31 KDVR welcomed guests. Other speakers included gala co-chairs Michael and Karey Finch, Mandy Moore of So You Think You Can Dance, and Rocky Mountain Chapter President Peter Gottlieb, MD, prior to the presentation honoring George S. Eisenbarth, M.D., PhD, Executive Director of the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes. Dr. Eisenbarth, spoke and charmed the crowd then recognized his wife, Frieda Eisenbarth with flowers.
Libby Weaver started the live auction with auctioneer Paul Schenfeld. The lively and robust auction had numerous items to mention including trips to Chicago, Utah, Charlotte Motor Speedway, private jet trips to Las Vegas, Santa Fe, art, private parties and the Star Wars Party Package. The Star Wars Party Package was a hit with the surprise guest appearance by the Stormtroopers and Darth Vadar.
Before the evening was through, guests generously donated during the Fund-A-Cure then enjoyed entertainment by the 7dancers followed by the Cigar Bar.
JDRF is the largest non-governmental funder of diabetes research. At the local level, the Rocky Mountain Chapter has over 8,000 donors and participants. Funding of research projects and facilities like the Autoimmunity Center at the Barbara Davis Center are part of the more than $3 million dollars JDRF spends annually in Colorado. In addition, JDRF has funded more than $1.23 billion in diabetes research worldwide since 1970.
