"Golf; A game in which one endeavors to control a ball with implements ill adapted for the purpose."
Many, many quotes can be found on golf, often describing its difficulty and frustration and the perseverance it takes to succeed at it. A few quotes can be found about what it takes to make it; “I've always made a total effort, even when the odds seemed entirely against me. I never quit trying; I never felt that I didn't have a chance to win."
Education shares much with golf, only the stakes are higher, for the scholar who succeeds in their education earns a life well lived, the opportunity to provide well for themselves and their families and develops the character and traits of a winner.
Javad Marshall Fields and Vivian Wolfe were such scholars and winners, they succeeded at CSU; each earning a degree and in life, as children their respective parents could be proud of. Their lives were cut short by a senseless act of violence but their memory and leadership live on with the Fields Wolfe Memorial Fund.
“The Fund is dedicated to providing financial support to students who are willing to make an investment in their own futures.” On Thursday, September 9, 2010 golfers brought it all together and made an investment in the future of several young people.
Past recipients of the Fund include Ms. Nicole Thompson, Ms. Loren Benavente, Mr. Nathan Brown, Mr. DeAngelo Jones, Mr. Janeshwar 'Janu' Cambrelen, and added to their ranks this year: Ms.Raven Theus and Mr. CJ Wilson. Thanks to their own hard work and the support of their families, the community and the golfers participating to help the Fields Wolfe Memorial Fund, they will carry on a tradition started by Javad Marshall Fields and Vivian Wolfe.
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
