Costumes are a given at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, but partygoers at the Colorado Neurological Institute’s 2010 Masquerade Ball gave DCPA performers a run for their money with a spectrum of upscale Mardi Gras glam and whimsy. In the DCPA's Seawell Grand Ballroom, men’s blacktie accoutrements included hockey and Phantom of the Opera masks, while the ladies sparkled in festive gowns with elaborate, hand-held feathered and sequined disguises.

The entire evening was an October treat for 300 altruistic attendees with a cocktail hour and sumptuous dinner by Epicurean Catering, dynamic Moment's Notice music and dancing, silent auction enticements and lively live auction. Gala emcee, 7News chief meteorologist Mike Nelson kept the crowd entertained with witty repartee (and took a bow for his accurate prediction of ideal fall weather for the event).

Jamie Angelich spoke to the crowd about the colorful life and memories of her friend, well-known Denver columnist and philanthropist Dawn Denzer, who passed away in 2007 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. CNI's annual Dawn Denzer Community Leader Award, given in her spirit of civic philanthropy, was accepted by David and Bonnie Mandarich on behalf of MDC/Richmond Homes Foundation. In turn, David and Bonnie lauded the accomplishments and service of CNI. David is president and chief operating officer of MDC Holdings, and Bonnie is a longtime CNI board member and volunteer.
Tisdale served as a spirited auctioneer for luxe items, trips and packages. Special thanks went out to the Bill and Leslie Vollbracht family for their $100,000 donation to the live auction, with a grand total of $150,000 for the entire evening. Funds go to CNI's coordinated care and services for adults and children suffering from injuries and disorders that include Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, epilepsy, brain tumors, spinal cord injuries, head trauma, hearing disorders, stroke, Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), sleep disorders and migraines. CNI supports a physician membership team of 50, and with contributions is able to achieve its mission to deliver excellence from diagnosis to treatment to rehabilitation and recovery.
Since its founding in 1988, the Colorado Neurological Institute has become the largest, most comprehensive neuroscience center in the area. A regional, national and international center of excellence, CNI's goal is to create and support disease-specific programs and services for every neurological disorder, providing patient care, education, clinical research and community outreach. CNI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. For more information, go to
