The twinkling lights, the outstanding floral arrangements and beautifully set tables combined to create a magical atmosphere at the Piece of my Heart Fantasy Ball, benefitting the Adoption Exchange. Guests arrived and eagerly placed silent auction bids while they socialized with friends and colleagues.
During dinner Ed Greene and Brooke Wagner, of CBS4, welcomed the many guests. CBS4 has long been a supporter of the Wednesday's Child program. Ray Nutt, the Chairman of the Adoption Exchange talked to the audience about the work of the Adoption Exchange and the importance of the support of those in attendance. He thanked the committee for all their valuable work. BJ Dyer, event co-chair and co-owner of Bouquets, spoke about the efforts of volunteers.
The Niblo Family talked about the Wednesday's Child Award and how adoption built their family. Brooke introduced the winner of the Wednesday's Child Award, Pam Kiker. Pam has been a volunteer with the Adoption Exchange for over 20 years, serving on the board of directors, learning about the needs of foster children and working on their behalf. Pam talked to the guests about the "power of one," how each individual has the power to create change.
Then it was time for the excitement of the live auction and raffle. The Jakarta Band entertained guests for the rest of the evening.
The Adoption Exchange does valuable work connecting children in the foster care system with parents who are seeking to adopt. The Exchange offers education for potential adopters, support for children newly placed in permanent homes and training for child welfare professionals.
