As the Paris fashion houses prepare for the fall and winter shows, fashion icons everywhere are continually looking for the most stylish gowns, jewelry, makeup, hairstyles and ....tennis shoes?? That's the beauty of Dine & D'art, a benefit for Denver's ArtReach programs that had guests running in high gear.
The third annual soiree provided entertainment just by watching guests dash for their coveted piece of art. The hobby stores must have been very busy in the past few weeks, judging from all the bling and glitter on some beautifully crafted shoes. Supporters Judi and Marvin Wolf, Teresa Kennedy, Ryta and Steve Sondergard, Edie and Mort Marks, Trisha Hood, John Farnam and Paul Heitzenrater, Gail and George Johnson, Louise Richardson, board members Nancy Cole, Marc Cutilletta and his wife Adrienne, Kevin Fonk, Alexandra Hoy, Cindy Hayes, Denise Seery and Molly Moss and many others were seen sporting elegant dresses and tuxedos, but in order to move the fastest, they employed the most unique and fashionable tennis shoes around.
Many artists who contributed art to the event, including John Atencio, Darrell Anderson, John Guthrie, Brad Ramsey, Deborah Griffith, Bethany Knode, Gary Reed, Barb Pullin, Michael Keating, Howard Neville, Homare Ikeada and Pam Kelker were also on hand to support this wonderful event.
Executive Director Karla Johnson-Grimes was everywhere, greeting guests, thanking artists and welcoming and thanking attendees from the stage. Event chairs Joe McCormack and Michael Ledwitz also took to the microphone for a few comments before the evening's honoree was introduced, Jamie Angelich. Jamie gave a heartfelt acceptance speech for the Ginger Merelli Special Events Volunteer award, and tearfully reminisced about volunteering with Ginger, who passed away in 2002. Both are known for their high energy, dedication and enthusiasm.
Auctioneer extraordinaire Gary Corbett brought a few other supporters on stage for the live auction and true to his unique style, seemed to be personally speaking to every member of the audience.
Add to the mix a superb catered dinner by Footers, and that would have been a full evening in itself. But everyone was waiting for their moment when they could put those rubber soles to good use, and dash for their favorite piece of art, so everyone went home happy, especially the beneficiaries of ArtReach.
ArtReach exists to ensure people of all ages who struggle with physical, mental, behavioral or severe economic challenges have an opportunity to experience arts and culture. Every year ArtReach programs ensure that more than 70,000 individuals and families in our community have the opportunity to experience the Arts.
