They call it "Little Hearts," but in actuality the hearts were as big as the horizon Friday as The Children's Hospital Foundation hosted the 26th annual Little Hearts Fashion Show at Infinity Park Events Center in Glendale.

Chaired by tireless philanthropic supporter Lyn Schaffer, the show indeed tugged at the hearts of everyone in the audience to see clients and supporters of The Children's Hospital Heart Institute own the runway as talented emcee Kim Christiansen told the story of each "little heart."

Several community leaders joined members of the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority to accompany the fashion stars in showing off fashions provided by Dillard's, as guests clapped and whistled enthusiastically. Prior to the show, attendees enjoyed a lovely lunch whipped up by Gourmet Fine Catering and listened to a few words by Dr. Dunbar Ivy, Chief of the Cardiology Department at The Children's Hospital and Dr. James Jaggers, Chief of Pediatric Surgery. Lori Claussen RN, Director of The Children's Hospital Outpatient Clinic, was bestowed the Sam and Fern Primak "Heart Who Cares" award by 2004 recipient Dr. Michael Schaffer.

Since 1985, a dedicated group of volunteers and The Children's Hospital staff have joined forces to present the Little Hearts Luncheon and Fashion Show. The funds are directed toward providing emotional, educational and social service support to children with congenital heart disease and their families. The Heart Institute is a nationally recognized facility whose faculty has expertise in the diagnosis, treatment and research of congenital heart disease in populations ranging from the unborn fetus to adults. The Heart Institute now includes 28 faculty physician specialists in pedatric cardiology and pedatric cardiothoracic surgery, making it one of the largest programs in the country.

But not as large as the hearts and the love for the kids, who show us this is what it's all about. For more information, log on to
