The Second City, Chicago's famed improvisational comedy troupe brought their own brand of humor to Aurora Mental Health Center's 7th annual benefit luncheon held today at the Red Lion Hotel Denver Southeast.
This benefit luncheon raises funds and awareness for Aurora Mental Health Center's programs and services the center provides to those in the community that need mental health care but who otherwise could not afford to pay for it. The center's mission is to provide quality mental health care to help people of all ages, live full, productive and happy lives. The current economic environment has created an increase in the demand for these services at a time when funding support is strained. Last year the center provided services to more than 14,000 people.
The 7th annual luncheon was an opportunity for those who support the center to see the next generation of comic legends. The Second City alumni includes: Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Robert Klein, Peter Boyle, Harold Ramis, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, Martin Short, John Candy, Tina Fey, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Stephen Colbert, and Steve Carell to name just a few. A number of skits performed at this year's benefit were originally written by some of these comic icons.
The Second City performance included short skits and improvisational bits that included a good deal of audience participation.
As a result of this benefit luncheon, the Aurora Mental Health Center was able to raise a record amount of donations this year. For that and their continued support, we would like to thank our sponsors and all who attended this year's luncheon.
