Hearts pounding, adrenaline pumping and it was "Over the Edge. The Cancer League of Colorado held an exciting fundraiser, "Over the Edge" July 8th and 9th. Participants who raised $1000 or more were given the opportunity to rappel 31 stories down 1600 Glenarm Place. For the novice rappellers there was a short training exercise, letting them practice with a 3 story descent and then it was an elevator ride to the top of the 31 story building and then down they went. Once at the bottom the participants eagerly regalled the spectators with tales of their adventure. The event was run by Over the Edge USA which provides a safe, exciting, OSHA compliant environment.
Many celebrities were on hand and willing to give it a try. Emcee Heidi McGuire from Metromix was the first one down, Murphy Huston from KOSI 101 braved the descent, along with former Bronco Alfred Williams. Bernie, the mascot from the Avalanche and Rocky, the mascot from the Nuggets together made a twin descent .
Event co-chair Scott Richardson hung from the side of the building as he gave Heidi McGuire an exciting interview.
At the end of the first day a celebratory party was held. Governor Hickenlooper was in attendance and spoke about the impact that cancer had on his family while he was growing up. Dr. Dan Theodorescue, the director of the University of Colorado Cancer Center talked about the important work that the Cancer League of Colorado funds. Being a solely volunteer run organization Cancer League 100% of donations fund cancer service and research. Any operating expenses incurred by the Cancer League are covered by membership dues and member donations.
Although the final tally is not yet in. This event has so far raised over $250, 000, which is the highest amount that any "Over the Edge" event has ever raised in North America.
