Take tons of great food from talented chefs, add tasty beverages and signature margaritas, mix in a super-energetic band and animated partygoers in a country setting, and you’ve concocted one of Denver’s favorite summer celebrations. This year’s Salt on the Rim soiree attracted a lively crowd of 300 who drank in the festivities on Saturday, August 20, at Kent Denver to benefit The Kempe Foundation and The Kempe Center for Abused and Neglected Children. Who needs a beachside beverage when you can enjoy a margarita on the patio with a gorgeous mountain view?
Soul School set the stage throughout the evening with must-dance music against the backdrop of sumptuous food and beverages served at stations scattered about the interior and patio area. The program included brief remarks by Pat Peterson, The Kempe Foundation’s president/CEO, along with co-chair John Farnam. Guests also had the chance to meet and hear from Dr. Des Runyan, The Kempe Center’s new director. Mrs. Colorado, Janell Ames, was among those spotted in a crowd filled with Denver luminaries.
In lieu of a silent auction, guests purchased “virtual piñata swings” for coveted prizes, with a winning ticket drawn for each item...the more swings purchased increased chances to win. Kempe Foundation's vice-president of development, Tracie Sheppard was a vivacious auctioneer, enticing more donations and announcing winners with gusto. Partygoers also had the opportunity to donate to the cause shopping from a Wall of Wine, with hidden bottles ranging from $15 to $150 available for a suggested donation of $30.
Since its founding in 1972, The Kempe Center houses what is arguably the world’s foremost team of experts on the issues of child abuse and neglect, annually providing direct support to hundreds of children. Training, education and support is offered to thousands of professionals and caregivers throughout Colorado and nationwide.
The Kempe Foundation advocates for children across the state with the Colorado legislature, and The Kempe Foundation Alliance is a determined group of volunteers formed to help bring awareness and raise funds to assist in this important work.
