Each fall Project Angel Heart organizes a fun event showcasing delicious food from the Denver area.  Generous restaurants come with selections from their menus to delight the taste buds of the hundreds in attendance at a Taste for Life.  The drinks and well-crafted food are an excellent complement to the expansive silent auction full of items across the board.  It is just about impossible for someone to have anything but a spectacular time, but this event is not about having a good time.  It is about helping people in dire need.

As with most fundraisers, the purpose is to raise money for a good cause.  In the long list of events looking for support each year, many causes are complex, focusing on much more indirect beneficiaries and missions. Project Angel Heart keeps it simple. Everyone can understand exactly where their support is going and see direct benefits to their contributions.  It is because Project Angel Heart focuses on the basic need of nutrition.  For those with life threatening illnesses, preparing the meals they need to prolong their life can be extremely difficult, and in many cases, impossible.  This is where their programs step in.  At times, the people that receive Project Angel Heart’s meals have felt helpless, wondering if they will simply go without a meal, let alone something that has the nutrition they need.

For anyone that attends the event and listens to the stories of those receiving meals, there is no one in disagreement of the importance of the programs.  For every dollar spent in support, the majority of it goes right back into serving the meals.  How?  The organization makes every donation count with their corps of volunteers.  In 2009, 3,017 people donated time to the organization, so the overhead costs stay low and the organization is able to make sure that every dollar goes farther than ever.

After 20 years of a first class event, 2011 was no disappointment.  A Taste for Life continues to be a not to be missed affair. While the event is about helping those in need, it is no lack of fun and excitement.  And as Project Angel Heart continues their success, more and more people continue their fight for life, and that fight for life is a world easier with Project Angel Heart here to help.
