Children are the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future

 John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Colorado Academy has been recognized for their commitment to excellence in education for over 100 years. They have added to those high standards by hosting the Horizons program since 1998, where the program has grown to serve over 130 students for six weeks every summer and six selected “Super Saturdays” during the school year

To raise funds for the Horizons programs, Colorado Academy held their Wine and Dine fundraiser, giving under-privileged kids in the Denver area an opportunity to further their education and continue on to college. This fun-raising evening was a combination of a fantastic silent auction along with a sampling of wonderful food from some of Denver's favorite restaurants  such as Steuben's, Vesta Dipping Grill, Colt & Gray, Lime, Mad Greens and more!  Guests also enjoyed a variety of tasty wines from around the world, and beer from Denver's own Strange Brewing Company.

Speaking during the evening about the success of the Horizons program were the board co-chairs, Peggy Phillips and Jim Kidder. They gave a much deserved thank you to everyone who has contributed to the program's success. They also, in appreciation for their work on the Wine & Dine event, acknowledged event co-chairs Molly Wallace and Emie Watters with a special gift. Also speaking was Head of School Michael G. Davis.

Two Horizon program students, who have now graduated--Liliana Contreras and Rafael Guzman--spoke of their experience in the program and their future plans for collage.

Wrapping up the evening with his entertaining style was Don Martin, engaging the audience with his interactive Heads & Tails game and setting the mood for the live auction, bringing in the funds to continue the mission of Horizons programs through Colorado Academy.

Horizons at Colorado Academy is a non-profit program that offers student enrichment designed specifically for Denver Public School children from low-income families.  Horizons is committed to the development of the whole child through experiences that enhance self-esteem, foster responsibility, build problem-solving skills and encourage a life-long interest in learning. The program emphasizes academic enrichment, social growth with structured group dynamics, swimming lessons and sports participation, life-skills, cultural experiences, and the arts.
