Armed with spoons, plastic cups and beer, supporters en masse came out Sunday to taste some awesome chili, laugh with friends and support the efforts of MaxFund animal adoption center.
Patrick Schaetzle kindly offered his Celtic Tavern/Delany's restaurant exclusively for this event, where patrons were able to sample some unique spice and ingredient combinations as individuals and restaurants vied for the coveted votes for favorite chili. Volunteers greeted guests outside, along with some four-legged friends that warmed their way into your heart instantly.
Ultimately, the winners of the competition were:
Dr. Bill and Nancy Suro, the patron saints of the animal rescue world, began their altruistic efforts on behalf of injured and homeless animals in 1988. It began with a small rescue operation but the Suros and others like them couldn't say no to these wonderful creatures who deserved a second chance. The project has now grown to a full fledged animal adoption and care center, with a mobile trailer and truck to go to rural areas to offer care.
If dogs and cats could say "thank you," they would give a heartfelt extra wag for MaxFund. Log on to www.maxfund.org to find out how you can adopt a pet, volunteer, or support these efforts any way you can.
