A record crowd of 1,983 guests converged on the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum Wednesday evening to support the Mizel Museum, the CELL and Babi Yar Park, celebrating their 30th anniversary. Glenn Jones received the 2012 Community Enrichment award, with longtime companion Dianne Eddolls by his side throughout the evening to greet guests and take photos.
Former Governor Bill Owens served as emcee this year, with the presentation starting out with a bagpipe procession from Alex McIntosh and David Wallace, posting of the colors by the Eagle Scouts of America, the national anthem by Jon Chandler and the Hatikvah by Rabbi Joe Black.
Museum Executive Director Ellen Premack said a few words of welcome and talked about upcoming projects, as did Courtney Mizel, founding director and chairman of the CELL, and Melanie Perlman, executive director of the CELL. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and Governor John Hickenlooper followed with remarks about the extreme importance of the Museum, the CELL and Babi Yar Park, not only to Denver, but to people around the world.
The man behind it all, Larry Mizel, took the stage and gave credit to his "wife, partner and best friend of over 30 years" Carol Mizel, the woman behind the man. Mr. Mizel then presented Glenn Jones with the Community Enrichment Award. A video full of tongue in cheek comments from Mr. Jones' family, friends and colleagues charted his life's progress, highlighted by his work as an innovator in the then-fledgling field of cable television.
