An Evening of Exploration, a gala fundraiser for the Denver Rescue Mission, was held at The Wildlife Experience in Parker on Friday, October 5, 2012.   The Denver Rescue Mission is celebrating 120 years of changing lives in the name of Christ.  This year, the Denver Rescue Mission served 611,574 meals, distributed 2,748 food boxes to those in need, provided 251,590 nights of shelter, and aided 687 families in the community with home furnishings.   In addition, they helped 54 men and women graduate from the New Life Program, 25 men and women to earn their GEDs, supported 26 residents in pursuing higher education, and assisted 196 families into permanent housing.

Guests arrived at the Wildlife Experience in Parker on an unseasonably cold night to celebrate the work of the Denver Rescue Mission.  Guests browsed the silent auction and were entertained by music during the cocktail hour.

President and CEO of the Denver Rescue Mission, Brad Meuli, made introductions and discussed the successes and recent changes and news of the Mission.  The emcees, Angie Austin and Jim Hudson, then introduced the speaker, Laura Schroff, who discussed her book An Invisible Thread.  When Laura met Maurice Mazyck on a New York City street corner, she had no idea that she was standing on the brink of an incredible and unlikely friendship that would inevitably change both their lives.  Laura told the story of how she met and befriended Maurice when he was an 11-year-old panhandler, and then Maurice told the story from his perspective, and how Laura's friendship changed his life and destiny.

Guests enjoyed dancing to the music of Swing Je T'Aime, and Laura Schroff signed copies of her book which were presented to each guest.
