National Philanthropy Day in Colorado is the result of a partnership between a number of nonprofit professional and community organizations. Members from Association of Fundraising Professionals, Colorado Association of Funders, Colorado Nonprofit Association, Community Resource Center, Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation and Directors of Volunteers in Agencies serve Colorado; The Governor's Commission on Community Service, Metro Volunteers and the 2% Club, serve on the steering committee.  The motto "Change the World With a Giving Heart" guides their actions.  At the luncheon attended by 700 guests Event Co-Chairs Ericka Fleming and Kristy Judd thanked the attendees and introduced the host, John Ferrugia of KMGH-7 News and then introduced Governor John Hickenlooper, who talked about Colorado being a leader in co-operation.  John Ferrugia then presented the awards.  Each award winner was featured in a video, which gave everyone an insight into the accomplishments of these generous and giving individuals and organizations.

The 2012 honorees were:

  • Latino Community Foundation of Colorado, Outstanding Foundation;
  • Barbara Grogan, Outstanding Philanthropist;
  • Carolyn Schaefer Wollard, Outstanding Professional in Philanthropy;
  • Optimist Club of Monaco South, Oustanding Service Organization;
  • Julie Gomez-Nuanes, Outstanding Volunteer;
  •  Arthur & Julie Seiden, Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser;
  • The Brighton Youth Commission, Outstanding Youth Group;
  • Briana Johnson, Outstanding Youth.
