What a difference a year makes, and the Colorado Symphony seems to be alive and thriving! Supporters braved the cold and snow to attend the kick off reception for the 2013 Colorado Symphony Ball on Tuesday night, and by all projections, both the event and the organization are well on their way to one of the most successful years in recent history.
Symphony CEO Jerome Kern and his wife Mary Rossick Kern, who shares board chair duties with him, were on hand at the gathering at Tiffany's Cherry Creek to tout the persistance and talent of the CSO and thank supporters. Event co-chairs Bob and Lindsay Deibel, Ed and Jenni Haselden and Jilliann Parker were also present to chat with guests (Co-Chair Rich Kylberg was out of state). Mr. Deibel and Mr. Haselden are members of the increasingly popular philanthropic rock band "The Moderators," who will perform at the ball ("The price was right," joked Mr. Kern). (See www.moderatorsband.com)
Mr. Kern also noted that the Margaret Phipps Award, traditionally given to members of the community who are extraordinary supporters of the CSO and the arts in general, will this year go to the members of the Symphony themselves, and who could be more deserving.
The 2013 CSO Ball, titled “From Bach… to Rock!” will take over the classic rock place, The Fillmore Auditorium, on Saturday, May 4. The Colorado Symphony Orchestra will be joined by The Moderators in a joint performance of rock and roll.
