ArtReach Denver, a non-profit organization dedicated to universal art access celebrated its 5th annual Dine & D’art gala this year. Proceeds will help expand and support the community by bringing art to underserved individuals and youth across the Denver area. This year’s ArtReach Dine & D’art gala was attended by artists and art-lovers alike to collectively raise funds for ArtReach Denver. The proceeds from this event are important to continue to serve the over 52,000 people that have access to art thanks to the organization and its mission. “This ensures that we can continue to do all these programs for people who might not otherwise experience the arts,” said Development and Special Events Manager Sarah Gulinska.
The evening began with an art preview and cocktail hour. The guests were able to get up close and take a look at the various pieces to start to decide which ones they would try to “dart” for when their name was called. Included in the $400 ticket prices was one piece of art, though guests wouldn’t know which one…yet. Every 20 seconds, a name was drawn, and that guest would be able to pick which piece they wanted. Winners were also able to have their picture taken with the artist.
Attire was black tie and tennis shoes, a casual and fun nod to a classy evening. Lively jazz music was performed by students of the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts and the Spoke ‘N’ Motion dance team performed a moving routine, featuring dances by abled and disabled alike.
This event was very special as it honored two honorees, one posthumously, Sharon Gravelle, winner of the 2012-2013 Ginger Merelli Special Events Volunteer Award and Betty Emmanuel, winner of the ArtReach Art Star Award.
ArtReach Denver is an important pillar in the community. “Really, our mission is to provide access to the arts to people who would not otherwise access them. So whether it is a financial access problem, or an educational access problem, or maybe a physical access problem, we are there to make sure that people can get to the arts,” said Gulinska.
ArtReach Denver is the only organization helping people of all walks of life with economic, physical, emotional and behavioral struggles enjoy the gift of art through its community liaisons and dedication to culture and the arts. It exists solely to enrich other’s lives through the expression of art, in all its various mediums.
