Supporters of the Autism Society of Boulder County gathered on Saturday at the Avalon Ballroom in Boulder for a night of wine tasting, good eating and lively music. Guests sampled wine, mingled with friends and enjoyed the food prepared by Executive Chef Graham Mitchell and his student chefs from the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. The centerpiece of the evening was a huge custom cake depicting the parents who are the unsung heros of the autism community. Also on display was the art show "Through My Eyes," which was the art created by those on the autism spectrum. Artist Matthew Denman had a large display of his work and lucky guests were given cards he had created. Numerous companies and organizations, providing services to the autism community, created displays and answered questions.
Brett Saunders of KBCO served as host and welcomed the guests, and kept them informed about the evening's festivities. Emmy Conroy, ASBC board president, introduced the other board members and crucial volunteers. Lauren Park took to the stage to explain how the funds raised this evening would be used by the society. Auctioneer Don Martin conducted a special appeal which raised over $11,000, and then it was the fun of the heads and tails game, the prize for which was an ipad mini. Amid lots of laughter many of the guests contributed $25 so they could join in the fun. Don Martin then conducted a live auction of several exciting prizes.
The band Girls On Top rounded out the evening, encouraging those present to get up on the dance floor.
