Beautiful Hats and Gorgeous Ladies!
Second only to Churchill Downs, The Denver Derby Party has grown to become one of the most unique and highly anticipated fund-raising events in the country. With its usual immaculately stylish and cool dressed crowd, the 2013 event was held in beautiful Downtown Denver, at the centrally located and scenic Denver Performing Arts Complex - which inclues the grassy outdoor Sculpture Park, the Boettcher Concert Hall and a portion of the Galleria. The race and entertainment were displayed on over 25 different HDTVs located throughout the event, and included a special 30' x 18' high resolution LCDs.
Funded in memory of Sean "Ranch" Lough, a remarkable individual who touched many people with his spirit, aspirations, humor, and kindness, his life and bright future were cut short when he was killed in a mountain biking accident, but his spirit remains in everyone he knew. The Sean “Ranch” Lough Foundation has absolutely no operating expenses . Its founders and supporters volunteer their time, and the scholarship funds are deposited into a CSU’s 501(c)3 and are managed by the school’s endowment manager.
Absolutely the highlight of the event this year, a 4-year, full-ride scholarship to Colorado State University, Sean's alma mater, was awarded to not just one deserving student - but to the winner, Magdalena Stroud's (just as deserving) twin sister Allegra Stroud - both students at Denver South High School. Allegra's scholarship was a surprise announcement made at The Denver Derby Party. The founders went to the sponsors of the event, and through their generosity, they were able to award the second scholarship. Deserving students like Magdalena and Allegra not only benefit from the education, but the life lessons they learn while at Colorado State University. By the time they graduate, they never want to leave Fort Collins and CSU and have a whole new appreciation of life and what their future holds.
The founders, sponsors, and supporters of this years Denver Derby want to thank everyone for their support. It is incredibly gratifying to them to help first-generation kids get an education that can really change the course of their entire family. And yes - See you next year rain or shine!
