The 2013 Hope Ball was presented by the Cancer League of Colorado at the Hyatt Regency DTC on Saturday, May 4. The ballroom was decorated with trees and birdcages reminding guests of the arrival of Spring, with colorful butterflies adorning the tables. Guests enjoyed browsing the silent auction items during the cocktail hour, followed by dinner in the ballroom. Guests enjoyed a baby bibb wedge salad, followed by espresso rubbed beef tenderloin with port demi-glace and citrus garlic butter infused prawns. Dessert was tuxedo chocolate covered strawberries in an edible chocolate box.
Kim Christiansen of 9News was the emcee for the evening, and introduced the program following dinner. Cancer League of Colorado President Gary Reece welcomed guests and directed everyone's attention to a video celebrating the life of the 2013 Cancer League of Colorado Champion of Hope Award recipient, Linda James Goto, 1942 to 2012. Linda volunteered for the Cancer League for over 22 years, before losing her battle with cancer in November of 2012. Her generosity in naming Cancer League of Colorado as a co-recipient of her estate will ensure that her passionate pursuit of a cure will 'be continued'.
The live auction for the event featured Gary Corbett, who got the crowd into some fierce bidding wars over several fantastic art pieces, starting with an original oil abstract by Carrie Fell. Then, a beautiful painting called 'Hope and Love' by artist Eva Makk and a magnificent oil painting called 'Rocky Mountain Bighorn' by renowned wildlife artist Larry Fanning were up for auction. A highlight of the evening was the auctioning of a golden retriever puppy named 'Charity', who stole everyone's hearts, and another was the appearance of Miss Colorado contestant Meg Kardos, wearing Shooting Star cluster diamond earrings and a matching diamond cascading grape cluster necklace for auction by Shaina Williams and Williams Jewelers.
Guests then enjoyed an evening of dancing to the music of Moment's Notice, concluding another successful Hope Ball.
