This year's 10th annual Wine Event was filled with glitz and glamour set among the blue violet and purple hues of the Infinity Park Events Center ballroom lighting. The Wine Event benefiting Children's Hospital Colorado celebrated its 10th anniversary with some of the world's best wines and an elegant, sophisticated setting that attracted a wide spectrum of supporters including some 400 donors, patrons, guests and wine connoisseurs.
The reputation of Children's Hospital Colorado extends nationwide for their children's critical care unit and a wide collection of awards for their medical expertise and groundbreaking research. This event is a special treat for Colorado wine lovers who get to pair their favorite wines with fantastic food amid the dynamic live and silent auctions. Presented by Phipps McCarthy, this fundraiser represents the annual signature event for the Children's Hospital Colorado Association of Volunteers or AoV group, who match volunteer skills and interests with the needs and roles of various hospital departments. The Wine Event specifically raises funding for the Maternal Fetal Medicine Program.
Filling in this year for emcee Chief Meteorologist Mike Nelson was the diminutive and proud mommy 7News meteorologist Lisa Hidalgo. Hidalgo and wine auctioneer Greg Quiroga kept the crowd engaged before turning over duties for an award to Kurt Klanderud, President, GH Phipps Construction, presented by event Co-Chairs Jean Bitzer and Heidi Robinson.
Amid the glitz and glamour and happy-go-lucky moments at some of the most successful charitable events are speakers, or actions that remind us why these charitable fundraising events are essential. That moment came when proud parents Erik Hall and Savannah Perry Hall reached the podium and described their own story with a video illustrating how Children's Hospital Colorado surgeons were able to save their now 7-month-old daughter, Lake Annabelle Hall.
Baby Lake is alive and doing well today because of a team of three dozen physicians for a complicated surgical procedure lead by Dr. Timothy Crombleholme, who removed a cyst on the girl's left lung before she was born. Today, Lake is thriving and a natural entertainer. To the delight of the crowd, Lake stole the show--blowing many 'bubbles' throughout her parents' emotional presentation. These pre-birth surgical procedures are rare and complicated but available, thanks to the Colorado Fetal Care Center at Children's Hospital Colorado.
The couple thanked the top surgeons, specialists, nurses, researchers, and various support staff. Thanks also were also conveyed to the AoV group of dedicated volunteers whose year-round hours of services help support more than a dozen departments. Passionate, fast-talking and inexhaustible Quiroga once again showed why he has become an annual crowd pleaser by auctioning off top bottles of top-selling wine selections and various other auction items for more than an hour.
AoV board member Donna Boyette and more than two dozen volunteers and hospital employees aided the Wine Event committee in ensuring the program proceeded smoothly. Besides The Wine Event, the AoV oversees a dozen programs including the Prescription Pet Program, the Ambassador Program, Junior Volunteers, staffing of the gift shop and various other duties in support of Children's Hospital Colorado.
