Nine of Denver's most creative fund-raising events were recognized at the inaugural Blacktie White Glove Awards Luncheon and champagne reception at the Westin Westminster May 16.
The ceremony took place in the sunny Lakeside Pavilion of the new Westin, where the white-jacketed staff served champagne and a luncheon of salmon strudel.
Honorees included the Adoption Exchange, Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Children's Diabetes Foundation, Dress for Success, Kempe Center Alliance, SafeHouse Denver, Max Fund, Planned Parenthood of the Rockies and Volunteers of America.
"The White Glove Awards were conceived about a year ago as we at Blacktie came to appreciate just how much work is involved –- and how much money is raised -- at nonprofits' galas and fundraisers in Denver," said Blacktie CEO Mary Winter.
"In fact, it was our friend Gretchen Pope who came up with the idea to recognize the people and the charities who put on these events each year."
Ms. Winter said the name "White Glove" was chosen because "white gloves connote service, which in the end is what each and every one of Denver’s 600-plus annual charity fundraisers is all about."
